LO1 Researching Audio Visual Promotions

Barclays Water Slide Advert
Purpose: The purpose of the advert is to show how much easier life is with the Barclaycard.
Form: The form of the piece is an advert
Content: The advert follows a man on his way home from work on a giant slide using his card with contactless payment to pay for everything on his way.
Meaning: The advert uses loud, joyful, feelgood music. A lot of shots are over the shoulder of the man as he travels down the slide to give the viewer the sense that they are in the advert. The advert connotes how much easier contactless payment makes your life. This will persuade the audience to get the card as it will make things easier.
Genre: The genre of the piece is a positive and persuasive advert to make the audience feel as though they need the product.
Audience: The audience is people between the ages of around 18-50 who are able to have a credit card and have a busy life.

John Smiths Diving Advert
Purpose: The purpose of the advert was to show that John Smiths have a no nonsense approach to beverages, as it connotes 'real men' take a no nonsense approach to life.
Form: The form of the piece is an advert. 
Content: The advert shows a diving contest with 2 serious contestants doing recognised dives, then an overweight 'John Smith' doing a bomb. He receives a perfect 10 for his dive to represent the "No Nonsense motto of John Smiths.
Meaning: The power is with the judges due to the low angle shots in the advert, and has them being serious as if it was a real contest. It connotes that the best things in life are simple, similar to the ethos of the John Smith company. They use a typical beer drinking pub goer to relate to their audience. The camera work shows replays and a scoreboard is edited on, this makes the advert intentionally look like a professional diving event, rather than an advert.
Genre: The genre of the advert is a sort of mockumentary style feelgood piece.
Audience: The target for the advert is middle aged men who enjoy going to the pub with their mates.

Toyota Rav 4 Ad
Purpose: The purpose of the advert is to make the audience want to go out and buy the car on the advert.
Form: The form of the piece is an advert.  
Content: The toyota advert shows a couple getting ready to go out the house at great speed. Everything goes wrong because of the speed they are getting ready at, including the man burning his head along with other things.
Meaning: The advert shows them fighting for the car in their driveway, the man blows up the house connoting the car is so good it is worth blowing his house up for. The shots are mostly over the shoulder and from the view of the people in the advert to give the viewer the perspective of the people in the advert.
Genre: The advert is shot like an action movie, as it is very fast paced with lots of changes in shots throughout.
Audience: It is targeted at people who can afford the car, so people above the age of 25 as it also has lots of space for families.

An Idiot Abroad
Purpose: The advert is meant to get the audience to want to watch the show by making them laugh.
Form: The form of the piece is an advert.  
Content: The idiot abroad trailer displays 2 different scenes, on of 3 men sat in chairs, one of them the main characters discussing the show and insulting the main character. It then pans to different parts of the episodes to try and inform the audience of the show, with the 3 men promoting the show and trying to persuade people to watch it by saying how funny it is. Most shots are establishing shots and crowd shots of the man in the show.
Meaning: The show is about the greatest places on earth that people want to visit, but it connotes that anything can seem slightly boring if the wrong mindset it used.
Genre: The genre of the advert is comedy, as it is designed to make people laugh.
Audience: It appeals to older children, right the way through to elderly people, as it uses universal comedy as well as shows far off lands.

Old Spice Advert
Purpose: The purpose of the advert is to make men want to buy this deodorant in the advert.
Form: The form of the piece is an advert.  
Content: The Old Spice advert tells the audience how to "smell like a man" Throughout the advert mostly close ups are used on the man in the advert, who gives many reasons as to why the bodyspray will make luxurious things happen.
Meaning: The way the man says these tries to make the audience want to buy this product for the effects, as it connotes Old Spice is a deodorant that will allow the wearer to achieve these things that he desires.
Genre: The genre of the piece is an advert, that is shot in a paradise like setting, like a holiday advert, to show all the great things that can happen.
Audience: It appeals to young men to middle aged men who care about personal hygiene and have or are looking for a partner.
